Abortion....
Abortion is a
subject
that kids and parents need to talk about. Unfortunately, there is
a lot of pressure on kids to accept the liberal view of abortion and
not much conservative truth to help them understand it. Parents
sometimes are at a loss to explain their position against abortion
except on a personal moral level.Hopefully this will help both kids and parents come to an understanding and open the door to more communication.
Abortion is simply the killing of a unborn baby that is alive in it's mother. This is usually done by a doctor, but there are some drugs that can cause an abortion. Abortion was a rare procedure until 1973 when the Supreme Court made it legal in their Roe v. Wade ruling. The fact that abortion was rare until 1973 is evidence that the founding fathers and the next several generations of Americans considered it a morally repugnant practice.
Instead of approaching the abortion issue from a religious angle (which should be a matter for parents to discuss with their kids), we want to look at it from the issue of personal liberty and freedom.
Most pro-choice (pro-abortion) people say that outlawing abortion deprives a women of her personal liberty and freedom to make choices about her own body. But liberty and freedom should never be given to someone at the expense of another person's life, liberty, or freedom. The Declaration of Independance declared that humans "are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness". The "unalienable right to Life" was the pre-eminent right that the founding fathers believed in, even putting it before "Liberty", for what good is liberty if you are dead.
Abortion gives greater "liberty" to the mother but deprives the unborn child of their right to life and liberty at the same time.
This makes abortion not just a religious or moral issue, but one touches on the very foundation of the American way of life, which is found in our American history. Those that embrace abortion as a matter of "freedom and liberty" know nothing about either.
